  • What are the benefits of installing solar panels?
Installing solar panels can help reduce electricity bills, decrease carbon footprint, and increase the value of your property. Additionally, solar energy is renewable and sustainable, providing a clean source of power.
  • Why are 6.6kW, 10kW and 13kW solar systems sold?
It's to do with oversizing your system and claiming small-scale technology certificates (STCs). If you put 5kW of solar on a 5kW inverter your system will probably never get to 5kW. By the time you take in all the derating factors plus the sunlight hours, most of the systems will only get to about 80% of the output. So it was agreed that when claiming STCs, we can claim up to 133% more than the inverter output; 5kW- 6.6kW, 8kW- 10.6kW, 10kW- 13.3kW When we design a system it's usually using a 5, 8, or 10kW inverter but it does depend on the space on your roof and your consumption of electricity. We value our conversations with customers as they help us better understand your unique needs and tailor a system that works effectively for you. Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or would like to discuss your options in more detail.
  • Is there still a solar rebate available for installing solar energy systems with Makn Energy?
Yes, there are still solar rebates available for installing solar energy systems, and Makn Energy can help you take full advantage of these incentives. Households and small businesses that install a small-scale renewable energy system (solar, wind or hydro), or hot water system, may be able to receive a benefit towards the purchase cost. Installing an eligible system allows the creation of small-scale technology certificates (STCs) with a value that can be redeemed by selling or assigning them. When you install or upgrade a rooftop solar system, we will normally apply for the STCs and sell them on your behalf. You will see the value of the STCs included in your quote as a discount on the cost of rooftop solar system. The federal solar rebate in South Australia can reduce the cost of solar panels by around 30%. The amount of the rebate depends on the system size, location, and how soon the system is installed.
  • Are batteries worth it?
You need to figure out why you want a battery. To save money, blackout protection or reduce your carbon footprint. Return on Investment - ROI. A typical solar system may have a payback period of around 3 years depending on the upfront cost. Most battery systems these days may see the payback period around 7-10 years. Most battery warranties are 10 years. Blackout Protection - Keeps the lights on when there's a blackout or move towards becoming off-grid. Virtual Power Plants (VPP) Find a retailer that can give you a larger price to sell back to the grid at peak times and buy or use your solar to charge when its cheap. Price security - If you can install a decent system in the beginning then you know what electricity is going to cost you for the next 7-10 years Cost - Most battery system are a little more than a $1/watt so a 10kWh battery is around $11000 depending on the system setup. We do site inspections for all battery systems and are happy to discuss your needs and find the perfect system for you.
